Community Leadership

Christian & Barton has an 80-year strong commitment to public and community service. Our lawyers and staff are involved in many ways, including service as volunteers, officers, directors and other leadership roles for a myriad of organizations.

Community/Pro Bono

Christian & Barton is delighted our lawyers and support staff have elected to share their time and talents with local PTAs, church groups, homeowners’ associations, athletic leagues, and many other community organizations.

In addition, firm attorneys serve the community through pro bono activities. Their stories include:

-A young attorney who has served as the statewide co-chair of the Legal Food Frenzy since 2007. This project is a partnership between the Virginia Bar Association, Young Lawyers Division, and the Attorney General’s office to encourage law offices to donate to food banks throughout the state. In 2008, the food drive raised more than 1.3 million pounds of food for Virginians in need, doubling the 2007 effort of 679,000 pounds raised.

-A bilingual attorney dedicated to providing quality legal assistance to Virginia’s Hispanic community and who serves as the firm’s liaison to Virginia’s Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. In this capacity she coordinates the firm’s efforts to assist local Hispanic businesses seeking Small Women-Owned and Minority-Owned (SWaM) business certification in Virginia.

-The Virginia Bar Association Community Service Program recognized five C&B attorneys in 2008 for providing extensive pro bono community and/or legal services.

-A senior partner who was a director of the Central Virginia Legal Aid Society for 28 years. As recognition, he was awarded the Lewis F. Powell Jr. Pro Bono Award from the Virginia State Bar in 1996. This is the highest recognition possible for pro bono legal service in Virginia.
